Atheist children significantly more generous and less harsh than religious ones, study finds
|
http://www.oregonlive.com/faith/2015/11/religious_kids_are_harsher_and.html
"Nearly 1,200 children from the U.S., Canada, Jordan, Turkey, South Africa and China participated. Most of the kids came from Christian, Muslim or non-religious households, with a small number from Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu and agnostic homes. Their ages ranged from 5 to 12."
"A new study in the journal Current Biology found children in religious households are significantly less generous than their non-religious peers.
At the same time, religious parents were more likely than non-religious ones to consider their children empathetic and sensitive to the plight of others."
I dares say this thread will help back up the study, inadvertently.

If only, Mike.
He kept repeating the same behaviour over and over and over again and nobody seemed to notice that either.
Or maybe they just felt he was a bit of a harmless crank and humoured him.

Wasn't the original X20 incredibly GREEN, yet nobody batted an eyelid or even seemed to notice.
Wish we could go back to those halcyon days of terrance tolerance.

Anyone who followed the classic Stingray series might remember that Surface Agent X-2-0 was sent into communities to pretend to be one of them and attack from within.
Anyway, our very own Surface isn't like that. That would be a little tragic.

'Religion is about being judgemental, you judge yourself and others. You will judge many as failure and this will therefore make you superior, fairness isn't required.
Not having religion you're more likely, under current schooling, to require fairness for everybody. Fairness often means kindness.'
In your judgment...

Bit of a shame it's degenerated a bit because a fair few reasonable chats broke out as usual among the nonsense.
We can live in hope that that will return here or break out on the next WHO religion thread. Only time will tell.

"Because you don't judge anybody do you, Dapablo?"
I imagine the original debate to be about general society where you are surrounded by "normal" people, on here I'm surrounded by horrible people like you, any normal person will be superior now won't they.

I think anyone that believes in a god is either indoctrinated from an early age or looking for a life-prop. That means I look down on people that believe rather than the other way some of you assume.
The study does show some support for that view but if you're daft enough to believe in this day and age then you have to be a bit stupid. Mind you the study is amongst Americans and they are mostly pretty dumb to start with....
